ABOUT NEW ZEALAND
With the exception of the Polar Regions, New Zealand is the last land mass to be populated. It is situated about 2000 kms southeast to Australia. The long isolation from the rest of the world has resulted in extraordinary flora and fauna. The kiwi is one such example. It is, in fact, not a fruit but a native flightless bird and a slang term for a New Zealander. The irrepressible kiwi spirit is famous and well evidenced by such classic examples as Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to reach the peak of Mount Everest, who was a New Zealander. His face is imprinted the New Zealand $5 bill. New Zealand culture is a delightful melting pot of British, American, Maori and Australian influences.
CLIMATE
The north of New Zealand is subtropical and the south temperate. The warmest months are December, January and February, and the coldest June, July and August.
